This week, we found ourselves walking through the Milwaukee airport when a sign stopped us in our tracks.
Recombobulation Area.
Now, if you've never been to Milwaukee, that's apparently a real thing. After airport security, there's a designated place where travelers can put their shoes back on, retrieve their laptops, reorganize their bags, and generally regain a little bit of their dignity after the TSA experience.
In other words... it's where you recombobulate.
We laughed. Then we looked at each other and thought, That might be the most Ted Lasso word we've ever heard.
🏟 Why This Matters for You
Life has a funny way of discombobulating us.
Work gets busy. The calendar fills up. The news never seems to slow down. Family needs us. Technology keeps buzzing. Before long, we're moving from one thing to the next without ever stopping to catch our breath.
The older we get, the more we realize that the challenge isn't simply keeping up. It's making sure we don't lose ourselves in the process.
Maybe that's one of the reasons Ted Lasso resonated so deeply.
Yes, it was about soccer. Yes, it was hilarious. But beneath all of that, it quietly invited us to become a little more curious, a little more hopeful, a little more forgiving, and maybe even a little more ourselves.
In other words, every episode gave us a chance to recombobulate.
⚽ Right on Cue
Which makes this week feel especially fitting.
Today, the long-awaited Season 4 of Ted Lasso finally arrives.
Millions of people are about to gather around their televisions to watch a fictional football coach. Not because we desperately need more soccer, but because Richmond has become a place we genuinely enjoy visiting.
It's where we remember that kindness and accountability can coexist. That curiosity beats judgment. That growth is messy. That forgiveness takes courage. And that a box of biscuits can occasionally accomplish more than a board meeting.
After everything the past year has thrown at us, another trip to Richmond sounds like pretty good timing.
☕ Your Own Recombobulation Area
The Milwaukee airport has a physical recombobulation area.
Maybe we all need one.
Not necessarily a room, but a practice.
A walk around the neighborhood before going inside after work. Coffee with a friend who always tells you the truth. A quiet morning before the rest of the house wakes up. Nine holes of golf. A good book. A conversation with your own version of the Diamond Dogs.
Whatever it is, don't underestimate it.
The best leaders don't just help others perform at their best. They recognize when they need a moment to put themselves back together first.

When we first saw that airport sign, we thought it was funny.
Now we're wondering if every airport, office, school, and home should have one.
Because life has a way of leaving us a little discombobulated.
And sometimes the most important thing we can do isn't push harder.
It's pause.
Take a breath.
Put our metaphorical shoes back on.
And recombobulate.
Just in time for another visit to Richmond.
